Professional Jewellery Valuations at Shaw Jewellers 💎

Expert knowledge, trusted experience and a personal service

Whether it’s a treasured family heirloom, an engagement ring or a piece of jewellery you’ve owned for many years, knowing its true value is incredibly important.

AtShaw Jewellers, we understand that jewellery is often so much more than its monetary worth. Many pieces hold precious memories, sentimental value and family history that simply cannot be replaced.

That’s why we take great care when examining and valuing every piece of jewellery entrusted to us.

Why Should You Have Your Jewellery Valued?

One of the most common misconceptions we come across is that the price you originally paid for a piece of jewellery is the amount it would cost to replace today.

Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case!

The prices of precious metals, diamonds and gemstones change over time, sometimes quite significantly. A ring purchased ten or twenty years ago could have a very different replacement value today.

Having an up-to-date professional jewellery valuation can help ensure your treasured pieces are appropriately insured should they ever be lost, stolen or damaged.

We generally recommend reviewing insurance valuations every three to five years, or sooner if there have been significant changes in the market or your jewellery.

Qualified Expertise You Can Trust

At Shaw Jewellers, our valuations are prepared by Charlotte, who has over18 years of experience in the jewellery industry.

Charlotte holds both theFGA (Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain) andDGA (Diamond Member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain) qualifications, recognising her specialist knowledge of gemstones and diamonds.

She has also completed specialist jewellery valuation training, providing further expertise in assessing and researching jewellery values.

We believe that professional valuations should be supported by genuine knowledge, experience and careful research.

What Does Our Valuation Service Include?

We don’t simply look at your jewellery and provide a figure.

Every piece is individually examined, assessed and researched before being included in a professionally prepared valuation report.

Our service includes:

  • Detailed examination of your jewellery
  • Assessment of precious metals, diamonds and gemstones where applicable
  • Professional descriptions of each item
  • Clear, individual photographs
  • Research into appropriate current values
  • A professionally presented valuation document
  • A printed copy for your records
  • A digital PDF copy, ideal for storing securely or sharing with your insurance provider

Your valuation provides a detailed record of your jewellery, which can be particularly useful should you ever need to make an insurance claim.

Insurance & Probate Valuations

We offer valuations for different purposes, including:

Insurance Replacement Valuations

These establish an appropriate replacement value for your jewellery, taking into account the type, quality and characteristics of each piece.

Probate Valuations

We also provide jewellery valuations for probate and estate administration. These are assessed using the appropriate open-market value at the relevant date, rather than the retail replacement cost.

It’s important to understand that insurance and probate valuations serve different purposes and can produce very different figures for the same piece of jewellery.

Our Jewellery Valuation Prices

We believe in being transparent about our pricing and providing a professional service at a fair price.
